The Crown

High Street, BRAY, Maidenhead, SL6 2AH

2 rosettes

Devotees of the British pub know the Crown is safe in Heston Blumenthal's hands. His third address in the village, this 16th-century inn offers real ales, a well-constructed wine list and a menu that owes much to pub traditions while displaying the quality that goes with the Blumenthal name. King prawn cocktail is a classy version served with rye bread, Cornish mussels are flavoured by garlic, apple and cider, and if you just fancy a sandwich, try an open salt beef version with dill pickles and shallots. Main courses might include fish and chips, or free-range pork belly with castelluccio lentils and hispi cabbage. Finish with rhubarb and custard.
