The restaurant at the Hermitage, opposite the beach and pier, is a large, traditionally styled room (although plans are in the air to relocate it), with service on the correct side. The interesting menus offer variety aplenty, as they must with residents eating here perhaps every evening. Starters are along the lines of a terrine of pressed free-range chicken and wild mushrooms wrapped in Parma ham served with ale chutney and ciabatta, with main courses equally well considered: perhaps hake fillet with asparagus, salad, new potatoes and hollandaise. Bring the curtain down with intense chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.
