The Mulberry Tree
Hermitage Lane,
BOUGHTON MONCHELSEA,
ME17 4DA
Time may feel like it has stood still in the Kentish village of Boughton Monchelsea, but look closer and you will see that a tasteful facelift has transformed the former pub into a stylish contemporary bar and restaurant with a comfortingly unbuttoned vibe. Inside, it is a blend of old and new, with warmly-coloured walls and leather sofas sitting on wooden floors. On the culinary front, the Mulberry Tree is in the right place for taking advantage of the 'Garden of England' - in fact local sourcing is taken seriously enough here that the Mulberry tree raises its own porkers in the field at the back and is developing three acres of kitchen garden to bring produce even closer to home. The result is daily-changing menus of well-tuned modern British food with a European accent: devilled Romney Marsh lamb's kidneys on toast might give way to Whitstable bream with Jerusalem artichoke purée, Brussel tops and truffle butter sauce, or roast Glassenbury Estate partridge with pancetta, swede fondant, and chicken liver croûte. For pudding, consider cinnamon pannacotta with caramelised Cox's apple and pain perdu.

I visited with friends as it was equidistant for us and nearly didn't go because of the unfortunate earlier review. However it was so bad that I felt it a personal attack rather than a subjective account. I am so pleased that we went - it was a real find. The food was delicious and the welcome was genuinely friendly by all. We were even able to have coffee in the garden after lunch - albeit with our jumpers on! It is unfortunate that the internet gives people a platform to rant like this.

Have had several very enjoyable lunches at the Mulberry Tree and this was no exception. Friendly service, great food and good value - the Mulberry Tree remains a favourite of ours in this part of the world and is well worth a visit

The overall food quality was good. Although the slowroasted belly of pork was disappointing.
Service very poor! Coats were collected upon arrival, but when leaving we were pointed to the coat hangers in the reception area. Waitress was very cold. AMEX card not welcome! Pointed this out to the hostess/owner we were very picky on this subject. I have never come across a character so rude in the hospitality industry I would strongly advise to go elsewhere for an enjoyable dining experience
