Lasan Restaurant

3-4 Dakota Buildings, James Street, St Paul's Square, BIRMINGHAM, B3 1SD

2 rosettes

Set in the Jewellery Quarter, Lasan is a stylish contemporary Indian restaurant. A vibrant atmosphere pervades the light and spacious split-level dining room, where the menu takes a broad sweep across the subcontinent to deliver regional authenticity alongside modern fusion touches. Start with batair, which comprises quail breast in mango and cashew cream, the leg in date molasses and a Scotched egg. Main courses run to Mysori khatta jhinga, king prawns and wilted greens in curry-leafed coconut milk with green mango. Herefordshire beef cheek is braised overnight for a wonderfully tender and delicately spiced dish, and, to finish, there's gajar - carrot sponge with ginger ice cream and raisins.
