Barns Hotel

Cardington Rd, BEDFORD, MK44 3SA

Occupying a lovely riverside location within landscaped gardens, Samuel Whitbread of brewing fame was born here in the 18th century. The hotel's WineGlass Restaurant is the main dining option with a bright and contemporary conservatory-style dining room that opens onto a terrace. The menu favours feel-good modern British combinations, so there might be a herb-crusted Brixworth chicken liver pâté served with grape chutney to kick things off. Main courses such as cottage pie, cabbage and bacon show good sense and sound execution. To finish, try the strawberry millefeuille with Chantilly cream. The wine list offers plenty by the glass.
