The Sun Inn

2 rosettes

What was once a run-down pub has been given a new lease of life and is now a useful food destination. Inside, there's a pubby lounge area and a contemporary, informal dining room with a brick fireplace and high-backed chairs at wooden tables. The modern British menu encompasses a range of bright ideas; pan-fried local pigeon breast, for example, might turn up as a starter with cauliflower purée, a Tatin of shallots and thyme and red wine sauce. There is steak and beer-battered pollock, too, alongside the likes of chicken breast with cep jus, bubble-and-squeak and spinach sautéed with herbs, and grilled fillet of sea bream with herby crushed potatoes and a salad of fennel, chillies and dill. Sticky toffee pudding is a textbook example and comes with vanilla ice cream.
