Oakley Hall Hotel

Rectory Road, Oakley, BASINGSTOKE, RG23 7EL

2 rosettes

Jane Austen enthusiasts will find references to Oakley Hall in her work. As a young woman, she was a frequent visitor. The new Glasshouse restaurant is the setting for classically based British menus that draw their raw materials from the kitchen garden. Thai-spiced butternut soup with coriander oil vies with rabbit and pheasant terrine and quince chutney for starters, before mains follow on with well-handled prime cuts such as duck breast with dauphinoise in redcurrant sauce, hake fillet with king prawns and samphire on crab velouté, and traditional sirloin with roast cherry tomatoes and wild mushroom sauce. Consider poached pear in red wine syrup with cinnamon ice cream to finish.
