A clifftop perch gives this modern bar and brasserie a sweeping vista across Christchurch Bay to the Needles and the Isle of Wight. Inside, it is a buzzy split-level venue where high stools at the oyster bar allow you to catch the action in the open-plan kitchen. With a sublime view, plus an irresistible alfresco terrace to bring in the punters, lesser restaurants might slack off in the food department, but with head chef Pierre Chevillard directing culinary efforts, there's a clear Gallic accent in the kitchen's output. Fish and seafood are strong suits - perhaps a Breton-style fish soup with croûtons, garlic mayonnaise and gruyère cheese, followed by grilled sea bass fillet glazed with Parmesan, and served with fennel, and orange butter sauce. Meats might encompass wild boar, slow-cooked with juniper and red wine and matched with sautéd wild mushrooms, and truffle oil-scented potato mousseline, and proceedings end with lemon crème brûlée and fresh raspberries.
