Gougane Barra Hotel

Gougane Barra, BALLINGEARY, Co Cork, ROI,

1 rosettes

The Cronin family has owned property in hauntingly beautiful Gougane Barra since Victorian times, when its potential as an idyllic retreat was first fully realised, though the present hotel dates back to the 1930s. Those views over the lake towards the mountains of Cork look especially magnificent from the ample windows of the dining room, where fine seasonal artisan produce takes centre stage. There are no airs and graces on a menu that runs from grilled Clonakilty black pudding with Bramley apple purée and crispy bacon, to grilled local sirloin steak or monkfish with scallops and seafood chowder.
