Restaurant Coworth Park

London Road, ASCOT, SL5 7SE

2 rosettes

A gleaming-white balustraded Georgian house in the vicinity of the racecourse, Coworth is part of the Dorchester Collection. It's not all standing on West End ceremony, for the Barn is available for eating and rustic relaxation, but the main dining room piles on contemporary style with its pale pastel look, and trailing ceiling foliage of oversized copper oak leaves. The kitchen's output is similarly forward-thinking, with a plethora of modern classic dishes produced with scrupulous attention to detail. The now inseparable pairing of scallops and black pudding offers caramelised shellfish, texturally echoed by silky shallot pur?e, as an alternative to lightly spiced duck breast with beetroot and salt-baked turnips. Then comes perhaps an eloquent fish dish such as roasted turbot, given the bourguignon treatment with bacon, mushrooms and red wine, or else Scottish beef fillet with oxtail suet pudding and watercress pur?e. Yorkshire rhubarb with blood orange, cheesecake cream and a scattering of crumbs makes a simple enough deconstruction, or there may be tarte Tatin for sharing, made with Braeburns and sauced in Somerset cider brandy.
