Number 50

50 Birmingham Road, ALCESTER, B49 5EP

1 rosettes

A 17th-century cottage on the outside, Number 50 's interior has a contemporary style that mixes up ancient oak beams with cream-washed walls hung with modern art, and leather chairs at dark wood tables and slate placemats. The kitchen serves unpretentious modern British dishes that are big on flavour, cooked accurately and without fuss. Set-price menus offer great value, setting out with seared scallops with green pea pannacotta, pea purée and crispy pancetta, before roasted duck breast gets the spicy Szechuan treatment and is matched with potato terrine and liquorice jus. To finish, a simple classic is given a novel spin: rhubarb crumble soufflé comes with custard ice cream.
