Arguably one of the most druid-friendly pubs in Sussex, this family-owned Victorian free house has the famous chalk figure of the Long Man of Wilmington standing guard further up the lane. The rustic wooden-floored bar is decorated with Beryl Cook prints. Take a seat at a pine table, each with its own wooden puzzle, and order some home-prepared food: chicken liver parfait with date and apple chutney; home-cooked ham with bubble and squeak and house chutney; and traditional fruit crumble are typical choices. Wash it down with beers from the Longman Brewery at Littlington.
