North Road, WHITTLESFORD, CB22 4NZ
Part of the Cambscuisine (that's cuisine from Cambridgeshire) group, this blue-washed village pub stands behind a neat, white picket fence; the car park is entered through wrought-iron gates. Inside the pub are elegant fireplaces, gilt mirrors and whimsical bowler hat-shaped lampshades. Among the four local real ales is Pegasus from Milton Brewery in Cambridge, and from Hemingford Grey comes Cromwell cider. The restaurant serves seasonal modern British and European food from a regularly-changing menu. Examples are Israeli couscous and chive yogurt, roast apple and beetroot; guinea fowl terrine; braised ox cheek, creamed potato, sprout tops and caramelised onions. The tempting fish menu might include hake fillet, bouillabaisse sauce, mussels and fennel.
