2 Main Street, WHITTINGTON, WS14 9JU
In the heart of the pretty village of Whittington, Jamie Lowe took over The Dog Inn in November 2015. With its open fire and separate restaurant, this whitewashed 18th-century pub appeals to local drinkers and diners. The no-frills cooking sticks to old favourites such as toad-in-the-hole with grain mustard mash and red onion gravy, which might be followed by the home-made pie of the day or a gammon steak with roasted tomato, flat mushroom, fried egg, pineapple and chilli salsa. A traditional roast is served every Sunday lunchtime.
