Waltham Road, WHITE WALTHAM, SL6 3SH
If choosing a pub involves ticking boxes, then The Beehive will keep you busy. Externally, it's 18th century, stands in a pleasant village, overlooks a cricket pitch and from its beer garden there are distant views of woods and rich pastureland. Inside, while contemporary in style, you just know it has always been the focus of village life. Real ales are from nearby breweries, and the bar also does snacks, such as rollmops and Scotch eggs. More box ticking will be required for award-winning chef Dominic Chapman's menu offering lasagne of wild rabbit with wood blewits and chervil; sea bream with tarka Dhal, cucumber, red onion and coriander salad; and buttermilk pot, raspberries and hazelnut biscuits. His specials could include Cornish brown crab on toast; Cumbrian air-dried ham with fried duck egg and parmesan; and morteau sausage, sauerkraut and celery cress.
