White Horse Baston

4 Church Street, BASTON, PE6 9PE

In 2013, local farmer Mark Richardson bought what for 40 years had been The Spinning Wheel. He and his team transformed it, importing beams from an old barn, floorboards to form a ceiling, and a decorative piece of sycamore trunk for the Snug. It got its old name back, too. His farm supplies meats so expect, for example, seared pork medallion; brisket and ale fritter; braised shin of beef; and chargrilled sirloin steak. Other prospects are roasted hake fillet, salsify, sautéed beets and caramelised chicory; game of the week; and sweet potato and coconut curry. Put the first weekend in July's beer festival on your calendar.
