The Old Ship Inn

7 The Ridgeway, WEYMOUTH, DT3 5QQ

Thomas Hardy refers to this 400-year-old pub, now in new hands, in two of his novels. Copper pans, old clocks and a beamed open fire create a true period atmosphere, while the garden looks across Weymouth. A good selection of real ales includes Jurassic, Otter and Ringwood, with Addlestones cloudy cider as an alternative. A frequently changing menu of good home-cooked pub food offers trio of pork and leek sausages with bubble-and-squeak mash; twice-cooked blade of beef with horseradish mash; and cask ale-battered fish with hand-cut chips.
