The Old Red Lion

Main Street, WELHAM, LE16 7UJ

The airy, split-level, contemporary interior of today's pub blends well with vestiges of its origins as a coaching inn. Polished floorboards, leather seating and open fire are a welcome retreat for ramblers drifting in from the area's popular walking routes. Views from the windows stretch across this rural corner of Leicestershire where the River Welland meanders through rich pastureland. One of a small chain of local dining pubs; the menu covers all bases, from British classics such as calves' liver and bacon; a seafood platter; a variety of steaks 'for the larger appetite', a choice of international dishes such as spicy Cajun chicken, and vegetarian options, perhaps vegetable enchiladas; and a nut loaf. Beers include Marston's Pedigree.
