The Fat Fox Inn

13 Shirburn Street, WATLINGTON, OX49 5BU

At the foot of the Chiltern Hills, parts of this building date back to Tudor times, although much of it is Georgian. An inglenook fireplace with wood-burning stove warms the bar, where locals can enjoy a pint of Brakspear Oxford Gold or 16 wines by the glass. South Oxfordshire producers supply the kitchen with seasonal ingredients for the short, daily-changing menu which has an AA Rosette to its name. Confit pork belly, seared scallops and celeriac might precede duck breast, potato fondant, feta, poached egg, artichoke and balsamic jus. Finish with baked lemon tart and wild berry ice cream.
