Cross Keys

Open fires, cosy alcoves, beamed ceilings and candles in the evenings - in a nutshell, that's the Cross Keys. Co-owner Steve Hussey, with partner Alison Ryan, is also head brewer/owner at nearby Maythorne's Mallard microbrewery, which supplies the real ales, with Somerset's Broadoak providing cider and perry. On the ever-changing weekly menu, classically trained French chef Franck Morisseau specialises in fish, such as curried cod loin topped with king prawns and his famous fish ragout. Locally sourced produce also goes into other options such as venison steak with port and red wine jus, dauphinoise potatoes and braised red cabbage; and veggie stack in blue cheese sauce.
