Old Ale House

7 Quay Street, TRURO, TR1 2HD

Close to the old riverside quays, this bare-boarded, heavily-beamed pub is a Skinner's Brewery tap, so a reliable pint is a cert; guest ales and Truro-made Apple Slayer and Lyonesse real ciders are first-rate too. A collaboration between Skinner's and Devon's River Cottage-trained chefs lies behind the upstairs restaurant, that showcases Cornwall's best produce. Menus offer spicy chorizo and fennel sausage roll; Cornish rarebit on toast; butternut squash Wellington; and 100% Cornish mackerel burger, winter leaves, chunky tartare sauce and wedges. Enjoy lemon posset or apple and cobnut crumble for afters.
