St Peter's Quay, TOTNES, TQ9 5EW
Named after the passenger, cargo and mail steamers that once plied the Dart, this riverside pub (alongside which you can moor your boat) offers great views, particularly from the conservatory restaurant and heated waterside patio, where there is plenty of seating. A real log fire warms the bar in the colder months. The choices at lunch and dinner might include chicken liver and pistachio terrine with apple and fig chutney; sloe gin-cured salmon, beetroot and walnut salad and horseradish cream; beef bourguignon, creamed mash and fine beans; and Thai fish curry, plus daily fish specials on the blackboard. Look out for the three-day beer festival in mid-May, occasional live music and summer barbecues. A change of hands.
