Main Street, THORNGUMBALD, HU12 9NG
This inn is located in the pretty East Riding of Yorkshire village of Thorngumbald which was once a Viking settlement; its unusual name might be derived from Thorn (as shown in the Domesday Book) and from a Baron Gumbaud who settled in the area in the 13th century. This newly refurbished pub prides itself on traditional hospitality, good food and well-kept local real ales such as Theakston. A meal here might begin with home-roasted sticky belly pork ribs in rich BBQ and bourbon sauce and continue with home-made fish pie packed with haddock, prawns and salmon. Three cheese and leek sausages with mash is one of the vegetarian options, whilst carnivores also get to choose from a separate grill menu. Time a visit for the August beer and cider festival.
