Lower End, ASHENDON, HP18 0HE
The interiors of The Hundred ooze charisma, thanks to dark polished wood floors, half plastered walls, mismatched furniture and eclectic decorative artefacts. Walkers, cyclists, families with children and dogs - all receive the same warm welcome from chef and landlord Matthew and his partner Pia who are fulfilling their dream here. A splendid array of real ales greets the thirsty, notably Side Pocket for a Toad from Tring Brewery. Daily-changing menus are a good indication of Matthew's kitchen skills: red mullet soup to start, followed by braised duck leg with turnips and green sauce; finish with quince jelly and shortbread if you want to make a proper meal of it.
