The Hawkley Inn

Pococks Lane, HAWKLEY, GU33 6NE

The inn sign saying 'Free Hoose' owes something to the moose head hanging over one of the fires; indeed, as landlord Simon Hawkins says, his country pub is quirky. With ten beer engines and a late-spring beer festival, the Hawkley is well known by real ale enthusiasts and cider lovers. Menus change daily, so you may be lucky to find chickpea and vegetable tagine; home-made steak and ale pie; or pan-fried sea bass. At lunchtime Simon makes sure that filled baguettes and ciabattas are available (except Sunday). Contemporary accommodation is available.
