EBRINGTON, Chipping Campden, GL55 6NH
Built in 1640, this award-winning Cotswold gem has an abundance of character thanks to the heavy beams and original flagstones in both the bar and Old Bakehouse dining room, and the large inglenook fireplaces, which recall the building's days as the village bakery. Very much the hub of community life, it's where lucky locals (and visitors too, of course) are spoilt for choice with several real ales, some from nearby breweries like Stroud and Uley, while cider-drinkers can enjoy Robinsons. As for the food, chef James Nixon, having grown up in the area, knows how to get his hands on the best freshly harvested, organic produce, as most of it is grown or reared in fields around the pub. That his culinary talents are recognised with two AA Rosettes should therefore come as no surprise. Music, games and quiz nights, and occasional themed dinner are held. En suite bedrooms are available.
