Main Road, EAST END, nr Lymington, SO41 5SY
On the southern edge of the New Forest National Park, just a short stroll from the Solent and close to the delightful village of Buckler's Hard, The East End Arms is a happy mix of community village inn and restaurant, with menus drawing on local produce and changing daily. The inviting Foresters Bar is pleasingly old-fashioned, with flagstoned floors and roaring fire adding to the pleasure of a gravity-drawn pint of ale, or a bottle of Thatchers cider. Lunchtime sandwiches are served on granary or white bloomer with French fries or crisps. The bright and airy restaurant is decorated with photographs of musicians, reflecting the past of the pub's owner, Dire Straits' bass player John Illsley. Starters such as ham hock and pigeon terrine could be followed by garlic and thyme roast poussin with wild mushrooms, Savoy cabbage and Parmentier potatoes.
