Market Place, WELLS, BA5 2RP
Overlooking the Market Place at Wells and a stone's throw from the magnificent cathedral, the exterior of this 15th-century inn, and indeed the entire Market Place itself, may be familiar to film fans, as they are featured in the 2007 British police comedy, Hot Fuzz. The inn's comfortable Penn Barr was named after William Penn, a Quaker who preached from The Crown and who later gave his name to Pennsylvania. Anton's Bistrot menu choices include starters such as smooth chicken liver and wild mushroom pâté or goats' cheese with beetroot houmous; mains like pan-fried fillet of sea bass with prawn bisque, dressed crab; spinach gnocchi or a selection of burgers. There are also 15 en suite bedrooms.
