The Crown at Wells

Market Place, WELLS, BA5 2RP

Overlooking the Market Place at Wells and a stone's throw from the magnificent cathedral, the exterior of this 15th-century inn will be familiar to movie buffs as it featured in Hot Fuzz. The inn's comfortable Penn Barr was named after William Penn, a Quaker who preached from The Crown and who later gave his name to Pennsylvania. Menu choices include honey-glazed Somerset ham, eggs and chips; local steaks and home-made burgers, plus vegetarian options of spelt risotto with pumpkin, butternut squash and sunblushed tomatoes. A restaurant, Anton's Bistrot, is also on site and there are 15 en suite bedrooms.
