The Bell at West Overton

Travellers on today's A4 near Marlborough have been passing or preferably stopping at The Bell since it was built as a coaching inn in 1812. Today, it's definitely worth making a beeline for; it's a great spot to just enjoy a drink in the garden or to linger on for a meal after exploring nearby Avebury Stone Circle. The inn's decor still has original features including sarsen stone walls. Hannah McNaughton and chef husband Andrew strongly support Wiltshire producers and suppliers in both the kitchen and the bar. Andrew has travelled the world and cooked in high profile restaurants; his seasonal menus list dishes such as confit duck and potato soup; lamb kofta with Chinese leaf salad, coriander and mint yogurt as starters, followed by roast Loch Duart salmon, Singapore noodles, char sui pork and brown shrimps; or slow-braised beef cheek, sautéed potato gnocchi, Marlborough mushrooms, peas and watercress. Sandwiches and a set lunch menu are available too.
