The Thatch

29-30 Lower High Street, THAME, OX9 2AA

In the heart of Thame's high street, the striking Thatch (thatched, of course) was originally a row of 16th-century cottages. It remains a cosy warren of rooms with inglenook fireplaces and antique furniture. If you make it past the bar without being tempted by coffee, cakes or a pint of Doom Bar, you'll find yourself in the restaurant overlooking the garden. The kitchen focuses on the best seasonal and responsibly sourced ingredients - a cold cuts deli board to share might be followed by guinea fowl confit, chestnut and bacon salad, and cranberry dressing; mulled Cornish lamb casserole and mash; or sweet potato lasagne with jalapeņo pesto. There is a beer festival during National Cask Ale Week.
