The Thatch

29-30 Lower High Street, THAME, OX9 2AA

Originally a row of cottages in the heart of Thame's high street, this thatched pub remains a cosy warren of rooms with inglenook fireplaces and antique furniture. If you make it past the bar without being tempted by coffee, cakes or a pint of Doom Bar, you'll find yourself in the restaurant overlooking the garden. The kitchen focuses on the best seasonal ingredients - a starter of game terrine with spiced apple chutney might be followed by venison pavé with dauphinoise potatoes, maple and thyme roasted parsnips, and juniper jus. There is a beer festival during National Cask Ale Week (September-October time).
