The Priory Inn

London Road, TETBURY, GL8 8JJ

An enormous 'walk-around' open log fire greets visitors to this thriving place. Its high exposed beams date from the 16th century, when it was the stable-block and grooms' cottages for the neighbouring priory. Local microbreweries, typically Uley and Cotswold Lion, supply the real ales; a white wine and a sparkling rosť come from a vineyard in Malmesbury; and damson brandy, sloe gin and quince liqueur are made on the banks of the River Severn. Meals in the bare-boarded, beamed bar and more contemporary restaurant use fresh ingredients sourced from within a 30-mile radius - for risotto with cavolo nero, almonds and cheese pesto; roasted half pheasant with redcurrant sauce; or Wagyu beefburger with Double Gloucester cheese, bacon jam and thousand island dressing. Diners can also design their own wood-fired pizzas.
