Warwicks country pub

TAL-Y-COED, NP7 8TL

Halfway between Abergavenny and Monmouth on the B4223, this wisteria-clad family-run pub occupies a lovely spot in the pretty hamlet of Tal-y-Coed. Surrounded by stunning countryside, it's a popular haunt for Offa's Dyke walkers, who can refuel with a glass of Otter Bitter by the open fire or in the sunny garden. Chef Mark Edwards keeps things simple and his menus have broad appeal. Chicken wings cooked in honey, sesame seeds and smoked BBQ sauce might precede a main course of braised lamb shank in red wine, mint and rosemary sauce with potato and parsnip mash.
