Martin and Marnie Thompson have run this charming 17th-century former coaching inn close to Royal Troon Golf Course for over 25 years. Log fires burn in every room and the work of local artists adorns the walls. Seafood dominates the menu, perhaps sea bass with tomato, basil and balsamic, while meaty options may include lamb shank with redcurrant and mint jus, and braised beef olive with a rich ale gravy. Leave room for cranachan - whipped cream and oats with raspberries soaked in honey and whisky.
