Wheatsheaf Inn

Main Street, SYMINGTON, Kilmarnock, KA1 5QB

Log fires burn in every room of this charming 17th-century free house, which has been run by Martin and Marnie Thompson for over 25 years. The former coaching inn stands close to the Royal Troon Golf Course, and the interior is decorated with the work of local artists. The varied menu offers plenty of choice, with dishes like fillet of sole with shrimps in lemon and dill cream sauce contrasting with more homely favourites such as gammon steak with pineapple or fried egg. Desserts include pear and ginger crumble.
