Bisley House

Middle Street, STROUD, GL5 1DZ

Built in Victorian times, this bar and restaurant was given a fresh look two years ago. It takes its regular real ales from Stroud Brewery, including their ever-popular Budding, while draught lager and cider come from Bourton-on-the-Water's Cotswold Brewery. Smoked Scottish salmon with lemon mayonnaise might begin lunch or dinner, followed by pan-fried hake with white wine and saffron sauce; an 8oz rib-eye steak with mushrooms and cherry tomatoes; or Moroccan spiced vegetable tagine with roasted baby courgettes and heritage carrots. On the extensive wine list are bins from France, Italy and Spain, chosen to complement the cooking's Mediterranean flavours.
