Little Stanney Lane, STOAK, CH2 4HW
In a small wooded hamlet, this traditional alehouse developed a fine reputation under the ownership of Alan Frain, who had run the pub since the '70s and who sadly passed away in 2011. Now in the experienced hands of his wife Janet, it continues to pride itself on its hospitality and good food. Inside, expect an open fire, TV, board games and darts, not forgetting an award-winning selection of real ales and extensive wine list. Typical dishes include black pudding and chorizo sautéed in red wine, on a spicy croûte; steak, ale and mushroom pie; and Thai green curry. Handy for the Cheshire Oaks retail outlet, Chester Zoo and Blue Planet Aquarium.
