The Bustard Inn & Restaurant

44 Main Street, SOUTH RAUCEBY, NG34 8QG

Situated above Lincoln Edge, at the heart of a pretty stone-built estate village, this imposing building dates from 1860. The pub's name is based on the legend that the last indigenous great bustard was shot nearby in 1845 by the local lord of the manor. In the beer garden and courtyard, sample a pint of Batemans XB or Timothy Taylor Landlord. The light and airy interior is divided between the bar and an elegant restaurant, with dressed stone walls, beamed ceiling and tapestry chairs; an ornate oriel window looks out on to the lovely garden. Head chef Phil Lowe's AA-Rosette cooking draws on local produce where possible. There's a snacking and sharing menu, or look to the full carte for the likes of smoked salmon with pickled cucumber followed by pan-fried chicken with Stilton dumpling. The words 'sticky toffee'and 'bread and butter pudding' are easily spotted in the list of favourite desserts.
