The Bull Inn

High Street, SONNING, RG4 6UP

Two minutes' walk from the River Thames in the pretty village of Sonning, this black-and-white timbered inn can trace its roots back 600 years or so; it can also boast visits by former owner Queen Elizabeth I and a mention in Jerome K Jerome's classic novel Three Men in a Boat. With Fuller's ales on tap, comfy leather chairs and log fires in the grate, The Bull charms locals and visitors alike. It's a great place to eat too, with an interesting menu of British and world cuisine. Dishes could include a slow braised blade of beef; roasted pheasant stew; Greek meze platter; jerk spiced ham; butternut squash gnocchi and chicken fajita wraps.
