The Anchor

High Street, RIPLEY, GU23 6AE

In the late 19th century, as cycling became increasingly popular, Ripley became a well-known stop on the London-Portsmouth road, and The Anchor was a favourite port of call. One of the town's most historic pubs, it was built as an almshouse in the early 16th century. Local and regional produce features on the menus, appearing in dishes such as warm soft poached egg, roast artichoke, charred broccoli and maple syrup; pan-fried gurnard fillet, salt-baked celeriac, parsley root, chard with white grape and parsley sauce; roast leek tart and king oyster mushroom; and Black Forest chocolate mousse, poached cherries and cherry sorbet.
