Church Street, PUNCKNOWLE, Dorchester, DT2 9BN
This picturesque 16th-century pub was once the haunt of smugglers on their way from nearby Chesil Beach to visit prosperous customers in Bath. There's a traditional, welcoming atmosphere within the rambling, child- and dog-friendly bars with their log fires, comfy sofas and low beams. Home-cooked food ranges from pizzas, tapas slates and multi-grain sandwiches to seasonally changing dishes like fish pie; chickpea and roasted vegetable tagine; and local pork belly with cranberry and apple compôte. Enjoy a glass of real ale or one of the wines by the glass with a meal, or while playing one of the many traditional board games that are dotted around the pub. The lovely garden overlooks the Bride Valley.
