Basset Arms

Tregea Terrace, PORTREATH, Redruth, TR16 4NG

Tin-mining and shipwreck paraphernalia adorn the low-beamed interior of this early 19th-century Cornish stone cottage, built as a pub to serve harbour workers. At one time it served as a mortuary for ill-fated seafarers, so there are plenty of ghost stories! The menu makes the most of local seafood, such as mussels with fries, and home-made fish pie, but also provides a wide selection of alternatives, including half a chicken in barbecue sauce; 12oz gammon steak; curry of the day; and salads including crab, when available. Wash down your meal with a pint of Skinner's real ale.
