White Hill, PITTON, Salisbury, SP5 1DU
Close to the cathedral city of Salisbury and ideally situated for visitors to Stonehenge, there's a timeless atmosphere to this English country inn. At its heart is an elaborately moulded old dark-wood bar from which diverge rooms and a snug with rustic furniture, ancient beams, log fires and rustic country-style decor, whilst hop festoons are a reminder that this is the place to get a reliable pint of First Call or K&B Sussex from Hall & Woodhouse's Dorset brewery. Local produce is to the fore in the menu of pub favourites given a modern twist, such as a half rack of ribs slow-cooked with BBQ sauce, or garlic and tarragon king prawns with hot ciabatta. Mains may feature oven-baked salmon fillet with herbed new potatoes, sautéed baby spinach and lemon butter sauce. There's a traditional skittles alley here, too, and the gardens offer views over the villages' thatched roofs. Dogs are permitted in the snug bar area, and there are baby-changing facilities.
