Built in 1695 at the foot of Ben Vrackie on an old drovers' road, this great all-round inn is popular as a walking and touring base. Locals are drawn to the bar for the excellent home-brewed beers, with Ale of Atholl, Braveheart, Moulin Light, and Old Remedial served on handpump. The interior boasts beautiful stone walls and lots of cosy niches, with blazing log fires in winter; while the courtyard garden is lovely in summer. Menus offer the opportunity to try something local such as mince and tatties; Skye mussels; venison pan-fried in Braveheart beer; and Vrackie Grostel - sautéed potatoes with smoked bacon topped with a fried egg. You might then round off your meal with Highland honey sponge and custard, or raspberry crumble. A specials board broadens the choice further. Over 20 wines by the glass and more than 30 malt whiskies are available.
