Charters Bar & East Restaurant

Upper Deck, Town Bridge, PETERBOROUGH, PE1 1FP

The largest floating real ale emporium in Britain can be found moored in the heart of Peterborough. The 176-ft converted barge promises 'brews, blues and fine views'. It motored from Holland across the North Sea in 1991, and is now a haven for real-ale and cider-lovers. Twelve hand pumps dispense a continually changing repertoire of cask ales, while entertainment, dancing, live blues music and an Easter beer festival are regular features. The East part of the name applies to the oriental restaurant on the upper deck which offers a comprehensive selection of pan-Asian dishes.

Charter's Bar and East Restaurant is great. Beer is widely varied, food upstairs is delicious, and both the bar and restaurant are well kept and very pleasant to frequent. 5 stars from myself, and I have visited many times.

Well - couldn't disagree more. The food was amazing, the service superb and the real ale bar below incredible. Recommended to anyone who likes good beer and good food. Previous reviewer must have gone on a bad night!

It is bland, tastless food. Not deserving one star. The worst Special fried rice world wide, I had to leave, and the prawns. The food was so bad it was imbrassing. The House wine was OK and saved the night. Food and the bill was not good. £3-75 for a bottle of water? I went there, against the advice of a local, as I had seen it on the AA write up. Very disapointing at paying £50 for Cheap and tasteless food. Desert of Toffe apple and Banana was so small and tasteless.
