The Ship

The Parade, PARKGATE, CH64 6SA

Parkgate's port is now silted up, but the views from The Parade across what is now the RSPB's Dee Estuary bird reserve to the Welsh coast don't change. With 18th-century origins, The Ship was regularly visited by Lord Nelson and his mistress Lady Hamilton, who had been born in nearby Neston. Real ale names to conjure with in the contemporary bar include Trapper's Hat from Wirral brewery Brimstage and Weetwood Oast-House Gold from Cheshire. Enjoy home-made food by the fire, with options such as pheasant wrapped in pancetta; Cumberland sausage and mash; surf and turf; Thai green curry, and specials.
