Just before a tree-lined stream called Oldbury Pill enters the Severn Estuary is the stone-built Anchor, its more recent near-500-year-old history recalled in old photos and fishing and farming bric brac. The bar line-up includes guest real ales, Ashton ciders, perries and 16 wines by the glass. Doors from the light, bright dining room lead out to a beautiful garden.On the good-value bar and main menu are baked lasagne; Gloucestershire pork 'snorkers', mash and peas; roasted guinea fowl breast, shallot and red wine sauce; smoked haddock and salmon pie; and goats' cheese, spinach, pine nut and red onion filo tart.
