The Fishes

NORTH HINKSEY VILLAGE, OX2 0NA

This attractive, tile-hung Victorian pub is a short walk from the centre of Oxford yet sits in three acres of wooded grounds running down to a stream - an ideal place for a picnic ordered at the bar or one of their regular barbecues. Real ales can be enjoyed in the cosy snug, but you may well be tempted by the modern British food ranging from deli boards to full meals such as potted crab with smoked paprika mayonnaise, and watercress and radish salad, followed by Cornish lamb on the bone with shallot and parsley mash, sprouting broccoli and mint jus. Opt for vanilla pannacotta for dessert.
