St Catherines Road, NITON, Nr Ventnor, PO38 2NE
With the English Channel on one side and the coastal path on the other, this 16th-century, former cliff-top farmhouse and smugglers' inn is one of the island's oldest hostelries. The interior has the full traditional complement - stone flags, oak beams and a large open fire, great real ales on tap, and muddy boots are welcome. Expect hearty home-made food, deep-filled Buddle pies, a large specials board full of seasonal dishes, and a great variety of freshly caught local fish. Two beer festivals a year take place - in June and September.
