The Bell Inn

This family-run free house in a restored 17th-century former coaching inn is right in the centre of this picturesque Georgian town. Sit at the bar with a local Upham Ale, a cider from Mr Whitehead's of Selborne, or one of the 20 wines available by the glass. Dine in the candlelit restaurant or bar on fresh, locally sourced monkfish tail, curried shrimps and coriander potatoes; fillet of Hampshire wild venison, chocolate sauce, fondant potato and root vegetable purée; or wild mushroom Stroganoff and braised rice. A £10, two-course deal runs on weekdays.
