The Bell Inn

12 West Street, NEW ALRESFORD, SO24 9AT

A well-restored former coaching inn in Georgian Alresford's main street, where Hampshire real ales hold their own against contenders from Cornwall and Devon, and over 18 wines are available by the glass. The bar dining area and candlelit restaurant offer fresh, locally sourced pork, ale and watercress sausages and mash; lamb shank with roast carrots and swede; pan-seared king scallops; and roast Gressingham duck breast. A two-courses-for-10 meal could begin with grilled goats' cheese salad with walnut dressing, then Thai green chicken curry and basmati rice. Station Road opposite the inn leads to the famous Watercress Line.
