Crown Hotel

Originally a hunting lodge, this historic hillside inn on the edge of Thetford Forest dates back to 1652. Traditional, home-cooked food is served in the bars and two restaurants; perhaps pan-fried supreme of salmon with warm cherry tomato and basil salad or Jimmy Butler's slow-roasted pork belly with apple brandy sauce, baked apple and dauphinoise potatoes. In addition to the real ales and wines, there is a choice of over 50 malt whiskies. Being on a hill, the garden is on the first floor.
