Crown Road, MUNDFORD, Thetford, IP26 5HQ
Roofed with traditional Norfolk pantiles, this historic inn on the edge of Thetford Forest dates from 1652. Originally a hunting lodge, it has also served as a magistrate's court. Today it's a popular pub with two restaurants, the Old Court and the Club Room, whose menus might propose Jimmy Butler's slow-roasted pork belly with dauphinoise potatoes; leek, mushroom and spinach crumble with crispy cheddar topping; herb-crusted salmon fillet with roasted tomato and red pepper sauce; and baked apple and rhubarb ice cream. In addition to Woodforde's Wherry, guest ales and wines by the glass, the bars stock over 50 malt whiskies. The pub being on a slight rise, the garden is at first-floor level.
