The Kentish Horse

Cow Lane, MARKBEECH, Edenbridge, TN8 5NT

Britain's only Kentish Horse honours Invicta, the county's prancing white stallion. Popular with ramblers and cyclists, the locals rate it too, partly because Chiddingstone-brewed Larkins and Lewes-brewed Harvey's are available, with guest ales on high days and holidays. Owners Trevor and Tina Jobson serve home-cooked, traditional food, such as pan-fried lamb's liver and onions; beer-battered fresh fillet of haddock; and tagliatelle with Stilton and mushroom cream sauce. The four-acre grounds include an extensive garden and a children's play area, and you also get a terrific view over Winnie the Pooh's home, Ashdown Forest.
